Commencing upon arrival in Kathmandu, a city known as a cultural melting pot and the country's cultural metropolis, our Nepal tour unfolds over two days to explore the Kathmandu Valley. The itinerary includes Kathmandu Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage site at the city's heart; the Swayambhunath stupa, located three kilometers west of Kathmandu, popularly known as the 'monkey temple'; and the renowned Pashupatinath temple, a significant Hindu pilgrimage site situated 5 kilometers east of Kathmandu on the banks of the sacred Bagmati River.

Continuing our exploration, the tour features the ancient and colossal Boudhanath Stupa, and Patan Durbar Square, the oldest city in the Kathmandu Valley, situated 7 kilometers southeast of Kathmandu. Concluding the Kathmandu leg is a visit to Bhaktapur, a unique and ancient town divided into 24 traditional localities covering an area of 5 square kilometers.

Moving on to Pokhara, a picturesque paradise for travel enthusiasts situated 200 kilometers west of Kathmandu, the city offers breathtaking views of snow-capped mountains and a crystal-clear lake in a sub-tropical setting, making it a haven for nature lovers.

Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, is a significant stop on our tour. This revered site is not only a pilgrimage for Buddhists but also known for its beautiful architecture, including the Maya Devi temple, Ashok stupa, Lumbini Buddha garden, and more than 22 monasteries from different countries, earning it a spot on UNESCO's World Heritage Monument List.

Chitwan, renowned for its jungle activities and cultural aspects of local life, boasts the oldest National Park, Chitwan National Park. Here, our tour allows encounters with diverse wildlife, including one-horned rhinos, deer, tigers, bears, and elephants. The day concludes with a captivating sunset view from the Rapti River bank and a traditional Nepali cultural dance at the hotel.

Village experience + volunteering at Basa (2.5 weeks)
This was probably the most "enlightening" 2 weeks of my life.

I met Cholendra when my family and I did the Annapurna circuit 2+ years ago and I was up for more. So this time round I wanted to summit Mera Peak, but before that to do some volunteering work and get a taste of village life.

As a doctor I wanted to explore healthcare/education in a Nepalese setting, and so Cholendra had made arrangements for me to stay in Basa ; village in the mountains with his parents and work in a healthpost and school there.

After a 15 hour jeep ride from Kathmandu, I was finally in Basa. I was greeted by Cholendra's parents, Mr and Mrs Bahadur Karki who were the most generous and loving hosts you would ever have. Throughout the stay they were so warm, kind and made sure I was comfortable however they could. I stayed in a very clean room, with plenty of blankets to keep warm for it got pretty cold at night.

It was a simple way of life - food, work, people. I tried to live their life - ate what they ate, went to the fields, dug up potatoes, fed the goats,building a cowshed, helped the villagers paint their community hall, cooked with aunty... It was such fun!

The people led simple lives and were happy in the hearts. It redefined the meaning of sharing and happiness. It made me question aspects of my own life...

I spent a few days at the health post and the remainder time at the local school. For 1.5 weeks - I was running English based games/programmes with children of different ages. In that period of time they improved their vocabulary and confidence speaking English. I had objectively measured this and came up with some recommendations which I shared with the teaching faculty.

It was a great time I had and has made me a more humble human being. Personally, I feel that people should experience this life and use it to reevaluate their own lives, do social work and contribute back to society. This being said, the " village experience" should NOT be commercialised like others I have seen for it will change the entire setting and significance of it.

“Best trip ever - 15 days Nepal round trip (Dec 2016)
My family of four travel a lot but this trip to Nepal (Kathmandu, Gorkha, Tansen, Pokhara,Lumbini, Chitwan etc) - organized & accompanied by Himalayan Joy Adventure (HMJ) - was one of best trips ever. And this was not only because of this wonderful country and it's specific spirit. The team of HML was so sincere, very professional, always ready to help, prescient and trustworthy throughout the trip - no matter if it was the the Managing Director (CHOLENDRA), the guides (esp. TIKA RAJ, the driver and Cholendra's new hotel team in Kath. i.e. Sampada Garden Resort. And it all came from their hearts. I highly recommend HJA! 6-star service.
